BPL will resume despite scandals

Officials said on Wednesday Bangladesh is planning to revive the lucrative Twenty20 Championship in December after two years of suspension in the wake of the match-fixing scandals.

Bangladesh League (BPL), which began in 2012, has been postponed indefinitely after the second edition the following year amid revelations that former Bangladesh leader Mohammed Ashraf and four others were involved in match-fixing.



"A lot of things happened since the last session for BPL, but now we have decided to move forward," said Minister Ismail Haidar tournament. "We have decided to re-organize everything and hold the tournament low-key manner.

"At the moment we do not have any domestic Twenty20 tournament in our country. And BPL is the best option we have."

Ismail said the BCB completed the "pay 90 per cent" of international players and entrusted the former captain of Bangladesh to settle the issue with the local players.

"Only a few players have not been fully paid after, because their value is subject to appeal," he said. "We hope to settle it before the next edition."
