Following the 2-0 loss in Australia and India slip to number 7 in the proof of purchase, Rahul Dravid and urged a long-term approach to improve performance abroad.
"I'm not a big for classification," said Dravid ESPNcricinfo. "We are the fifth or seventh, and for me it does not really make a big difference. There are going to be playing abroad for a long time, so our rating and will definitely improve.
"We will perform well in India. We have a batting line-up now, I have some very good spinners can play well in these conditions, even if we were having this conversation in 24 months and we played outside a lot, then I might be talking "Oh, great, there are numbers one and two.
"So this is not the point. For me, the point is, how well we do when we go abroad now, and what are the steps we are taking to address some of the issues that became very clear in the past are 12 to 14 months. "
Dravid said India was built near the batting line-up to be able to compete in all circumstances, but in need of significant improvement in the bowling alley to win consistently abroad.
"I was rolling big disappointment, and I think if you are not bowling consistently well, and if you do not have bowlers in world class in both speed and spin, then you will slide down the ranking because you will not produce results ".
The current generation of players have failed in several rounds abroad, but hinted that Dravid may still be the best choices of India has, for the moment, with the advantage of not acting on a local cricket match.
"It's hard. I still Ranji cricket and Cricket Cup in India, and there is a lot of talent, and a closet, unfortunately, in the bowling department, and not stored as well as we would like.
